SPRING LESSONS & CLASSES AT WILD IVY FARM
 

Listed below are some new group lesson options for both mounted and unmounted classes.  If there is a lesson you are interested in but the time or day is not convenient, please check with Cassie about a possible change.  

The group classes are offered as a series of 3 lessons for $100.  You may do just the first lesson from any series for $35.  Lessons 2 and 3 in each series will be a continuation of work done in the first lesson and will only be open to those who have attended the first lesson.  Group lessons are $35 each.  A $10 discount is given for each lesson if you have your own horse to use or are a UMO student. All classes and lessons are subject to rescheduling.  

GROUP LESSONS

Basics Lessons - for riders learning the first steps of riding to riders learning to canter.  Work in these lessons will include position and balance, ring figures and terminology, balance at all 3 gaits including work without stirrups, learning how the rider influences and effects the horse's movement and more.  

Offered on Saturdays at 2:00 4/3, 4/17, 4/24, 5/1, 5/8, 5/22, 5/29
 
Dressage Lessons - for riders experienced enough to work on influencing the horse's balance and executing specific exercises that will improve the horse's movement, athleticism and flexibility.  Work in these lessons will include ring figures, terminology & the training pyramid, learning the lateral exercises and how they are beneficial to the horse and rider, riding a Dressage test and more.  

Offered on Fridays at 4:00 4/2, 4/16, 4/23, 4/30, 5/7 5/14, 5/21, 5/28

Jumping Lessons - for riders who are comfortable cantering without their stirrups and able to maintain a good 2-point position over cavaletti poles up to riders ready to jump full courses.  Work in these lessons will include position and strengthening exercises, riding gymnastic lines, riding jumps on turns and angles, jumping natural obstacles, riding a course to be judged and more.

HORSEMANSHIP  CLASSES:

Groundwork - working with horses on the ground doing specific exercises to improve horse & handler communication and coordination.  These classes will include learning how the handler's body language affects the horse, reading the horse's body language, maintaining personal space, establishing an sense of calmness and respect, maneuvering through obstacles and more.  

April 17, 18, 19 at 10 am

Lungeing - working with horses on the lunge line to improve the horse's balance, fitness and obedience.  These classes will include learning how to maintain control of the horse on the lunge line, voice commands and how to use them, tack & equipment fitting, interpret the horse's movement, lungeing over cavaletti and jumps, safely lungeing a horse and rider and more.  

April 22, 24, 25 at 10am

Riding Instruction - learning effective methods of riding instruction.  These classes are for those who are interested in sharing their own experience and knowledge with newer riders.  Work will include theory of basic equitation, presentation of exercises, tone of voice and terminology, positive versus negative reinforcement, maintaining the safety of horse and rider, fitting tack and stirrup length, maintaining organization of group lessons, recognizing position faults and how to correct them and more. * These classes will also need volunteer riders*  

April 19 at 1 pm, 21 at 10 am, 23 at 10 am 

Horse Show Preparation - learning how to groom a horse for a competition.  Topics covered will be different types of braiding for manes and tails, clipping and trimming, pulling manes, banging tails, tack cleaning and inspection and clothing and tack requirements for different types of competitions and more.  

April 18, 23, 25 at 1pm

Fit Rider - mounted work on strength, conditioning and balance for the rider.  Lessons will be both on the lunge line and in group form in the arena.  Exercises will be done that focus on improving the rider so that the rider may be able to improve the horse.
